Zoom with Pres. and Sora Ivory

Image
We spent half an hour on Zoom with Pres and Sora Ivory today in a little "get to know you" visit.  They asked about our family and life and gospel experience.  (We think they are trying to figure our what to do with us.) They assured us that we are very needed and that they are so excited for us to come.  They will pick us up at the airport along with the other couple coming in that day.  They feel that Romania is currently the safest place in Europe.  It was reassuring to actually meet them.  They seem very down to earth and kind.  4 days to MTC

Big Weekend

Photo of Grandpa with Aela and Meg. Wonderful day yesterday! We spoke in Sacrament Meeting and fixed lunch for our visitors who had come to support us. We had McKay and Janel with their children, Micah and Ashlee and their children, Marshall and Meg and Jess and Ryan and Aela. Missed Tyler and the Mays, Jessica, Reve, Lexi and Cort. Sandi and Kerry brought Grandma Herd and Zoe and Eric. Bruce and Heidi brought Holli and Sterling.  I fixed a bit too much food, but sent a bunch of it home with the kids. Only a week until we go to the MTC!

Lots to Learn

Image
Spent the morning yesterday with Flor, our amazing language tutor and Ricky, our learning coach at the Amanda Knight Hall in Provo.  We ended the session with a one on one real Romanian who could not speak English.  We learned that we have lots to learn!!! Only 23 days to go to MTC.  We'll be in Romania before we know it.

31 days and counting

This week we got our second round of shots ( all we need for now ) and studied Romanian.  We are getting closer to having the clothes we need and picked up some books about self-reliance from the Deseret Book that were suggested for us to study.  The time is getting closer.  Yikes!

Tutoring

Our Romanian tutor speaks 3 languages and is a student at BYU Provo.  Originally from Peru, she was so surprised to be called to Romanian on her mission.  We have met with her online twice now, on February 18 and 25th.  It will take lots of work, but we think we are getting it little by little.

Our granddaughter, Klarissa Andersen, made the closest guess of the location where we would be going to serve our mission.  Congratulations to her.  She is the proud winner of $20.

Learning a new language!

Today we were contacted by the MTC in Provo with some help to learn how to speak Romanian. Hmmm, this will be interesting.  They will work with us over Skype.

More mission prep

Oscar Hammerstein III (Andy) Last week we met with the leaders of our Language Indexing Service Mission in Salt Lake City as part of Roots Tech.  Today we received a call from the MTC in Provo and got set up for our language training.
