10 September 2018 - Week 75

This week we spent our time in Hungary teaching the missionaries about Family History. We taught them how to assist their members in reserving names for the temple.  The Europe Area Presidency has asked everyone in the Europe area to fill out their "My Family" booklet and reserve names of their ancestors for temple ordinances.  President Hettinger wants each missionary to work with at least one member and reserve at least one name for baptism in the temple.  Our assignment was to teach the missionaries how to accomplish the task.  We had 40 minutes to do it.

All 4 of the Hungary Zone Conferences were held one day after another beginning on Monday.  We made a slide show of the points we wanted to cover and role played what we each would say so we could get through it in time. It seemed like it went well and we had many missionaries thank us for the presentation.  Now we have to see if they can put what we taught into practice and accomplish the goal.

Sister Hettinger, the wife of the president, took a few pictures of our performance.

And here is a photo of the Pres and Sister Hettinger listening to one of the training sessions.

A group of elders providing a musical number on the first day.

The second day a group of sisters sang for the group.

On the last day the sister trainer leaders put on a fabulous training about taking care of the one by demonstration with a big jar of Peanut MnM's.   They dumped them on the floor.  It made me sad!  Then they asked everyone to help pick them up being careful not to miss any.  After the floor was cleared of any mnm's we totaled up how many we had of each color and learned that we were missing a green one.  The president admitted that he had the lost one in his pocket.

We learned from Moses 1 that we are all numbered to God.  He cares about every 1.  He wants us to find all his children who are willing to follow him.  A skillful job of making a great point.  Training well done.

We stayed at the hotel used by the office for most of the guests of the mission.  It is a short walk through a park from the mission office to the hotel.  It was the first time we have encountered the European bedding tradition of a comforter for each person in the bed.  So rather than having one comforter that covers the whole bed, they have two comforters on the bed, one for each of us.

We went to the hotel restaurant for our supper the first night.  It cost 5,402 huf.
But even more shocking was the cost of the room.  When we checked out on Thursday morning, the clerk announced the amount of $113,372  causing an audiable gasp.  I said, "Can you please give that number to me in US dollars?"

It turned out to be a little less than $400.  Wheeew.  That's more like what I expected.

On Tuesday evening the Hettingers hosted a seniors dinner at their apartment.  We ate with 3 other couples who were all assigned to Hungary.  One couple was MLS like us, another couple who are assigned to Pathway and the couple who work in the office.   We enjoyed meeting them and we were able to see the beautiful new mission apartment.

The next night we took a short walk to the mall and ate at Burger King!  AUwahhh!
Some of the sights at the mall.

A picture of twin chestnuts Brent found on the ground at the park.  The outside shells are green and prickly, but when you get them open the seeds are beautiful and shiny.
