3 July 2017 - Week 13

When Brent took his walk on Monday morning, he found another tree with leaves that have some sprouts coming out the middle of the leaves. The little ball shapes on the end of the stems go down to the middle of the light colored leaves. It is the craziest thing!

Continuing the story from last week, Brent spent several days this week running back and forth to the church and talking to people on the phone like Pres. Geambasu, Pres. Toth, and Global Support in Salt Lake City, trying to undo Elder Gore's accidental record move. It was Thursday before they could finally print out the paperwork needed to take the little donation money to the bank.  He was so glad to finally get it done.

We also helped the Elders ship a package to Sibiu to Elder Wilstead. He left his charger and two pairs of shoes in the apartment when he transferred.  Truthfully, he left a few more things, but we won't cover that.  So on one of our runs to the church, we stopped at a courier to ship the package.  And a little miracle occurred, they were able to send it COD.  Elder Gore was grateful that he didn't have to use the last few dollars of his monthly MSF to send the package.

Brent is still curious about the methods of construction we see all around us.  This building is having another level added.   The construction worker was making his way along the scaffolding and stopped just as Brent took the photo.

When I got to the construction site I saw the worker, above, sneaking out very carefully with the cement form for that corner.  He was quit careful due to lack of any fall protection. His working partner was on the other side of the corner.  Together they put the form in place using nails into the clay block.  I think they use heavy wire to add strength to the forms. They are four stories up.

We printed off a letter for Mom and mailed it. At the post office, a gypsy mother was doing some business and her older daughter was taking care of the younger daughter.  We had to get a picture.

Saturday our missionaries planned a games night for their English students and investigators.  They found a tennis court at the University in a park by the river.  Brent helped them fill 200 balloons which we loaded into containers and put in the car to haul to the tennis courts.  We had 6 missionaries, 2 English students, 1 investigator and a person who came in off the street join us.

Sister Alger and Sister Casteneda worked so hard on this activity and it turned out very well.

We took our usual Sunday trip to Timisoara.

All along the way we saw big fields of blooming sunflowers.  We are guessing they are a big agricultural market for the local farmers.

The church meetings in Timi are often somewhat bombastic due to the strong convictions of the 3 regular attending members.  This day was no exception.  We enjoy their enthusiasm for the gospel.  We took the grateful missionaries home after the meetings, saving them a hot walk and headed back to Arad.  We took a different exit than usual for Arad which takes us past this beautiful bridge.  It was built by a man who went to school at the same time and place as Eifel of Eifel tower fame.  His name was Toth.  The structure is reminiscent of the famous tower.

This bridge was bombed by allied forces during WWII but was just lightly damaged so it was repaired and is in use today.  It handles both tram trains and car traffic.

O Zi Buna!

  1. That sunflower field is breath taking!! Wow! And I love the look of that bridge. How fun to have a good old fashioned game of water balloon volleyball. Sounds like you're having a great influence on the people, especially the missionaries. I want to share these stories of elders missing trains and forgetting items with the kids to help them see why it's important to plan and organize. It really causes unnecessary issues for us and others when we fail to do that. Bless you for teaching these missionaries and helping them.

Our holiday festivities were fun, certainly not the same without you. We have our Yukon in the shop with hopes of it getting fixed and back to us soon. Kira and I have girls camp next week. Tomorrow Klarissa is flying home to be here for LeAnn's mission farewell. We are also expecting her mission call this weekend so she can open it while she's here. We will be in touch to coordinate a time with you. Keagan leaves this morning for high adventure. They are going horseback riding till Saturday.

Thanks for sharing your mission adventures. We love you lots and pray for you often!
