June 12, 2017 Week 10

So, one detail I left out of last week's post. . . . Brent took a bite of a piece of ethnic sausage called "mici" and broke off a crown in the back of his mouth.  The fix for this problem became the focus of our week.

We began by talking to President Ivory about it.  He suggested that we go to Timisoara as it is a University town and would probably have a few more choices for dentists.  Then we called Mike Merrell, our dentist in Rexburg.  He checked Brent's dental records and we learned that the tooth had a 21-year-old root canal in it.  We started thinking that tooth would be brittle and possibly be broken in a way that the crown could not be glued on again.

Brent looked on the internet and chose a Dentist who could do implants, surgery and such and we scheduled an appointment. (Bonus he also speaks broken English, so at least we could communicate. Yeah!) Our fears were confirmed.  Following an Xray, which the Dr. sent us to the mall to get, (everything is harder in Romania), we decided to have the tooth extracted.  Here is a photo of the Xray office.

The tooth turned out to be brittle and it broke into many pieces, but with a skilled Dr. and prayer, we were able to get it done.  The dentist sent us home with RX for pain and antibiotics.  We will get the stitches out this week and think about whether we want to get an implant here or wait until we return to America.  It will be MUCH cheaper here. In fact, for 2 hours of oral surgery for this procedure it only cost us $78.

We went with the Soras to visit a sister in the ward, Sister Pieper.
She lives in a block in the city.  There are lots of people in these blocks.  Just stacks and stacks of little apartments in big buildings with just a whisker's width between them.  Sister Pieper and her husband are headed to Italy for work next week.  Many Romanians leave the country for work because the pay is much better in other countries.  Here is a picture of Sora Anderson and Sora Alger on the sidewalk in front of the block. We left a page from Preach My Gospel with the Christlike attributes on it for her to study.

On Sunday we attended church in Arad and then headed to Timisoara again to support the small branch there.  Here are Elder Hunstman and Elder Ennis (from Australia) with Elder Andersen in front of their church building. Must be red tie day??

The Sacrament meeting again was eventful with the arrival of the Sunday School teacher about half way through.  We were listening to the talks for Sacrament meeting and heard huffing and puffing and stomping. He was just excited that he made it to the meeting before Sunday School started.  His lesson was difficult for us to follow because we do not understand the language enough, but we think he told lots of stories without much lesson material.  It was a good day.

The sister we sat next to in Sacrament meeting handed this to me.  I have never seen a flower grow right out of a leave, but here is the proof.

Look at these beautiful hydrangas blooming outside the building.

On our drive home I tried to get a picture to show how there are flower boxes along the roadways. Romanians do like flowers alot!

  1. Oh my goodness! What an adventure! I hope the healing from the tooth extraction is going well. That had to be a wild experience.

The color of those hydrangeas is so vibrant! And they are so perfect. They don't seem real. That's nice to have some beauty to admire. What a neat experience you're having. You will surely look back on this time in awe. This blog is a wonderful record. I sure love reading your updates!
