June 5, 2017 Week 9

We are going to start this week out with a cool video of life in Romania.  Brent took this video while he was taking his walk at an intersection we drive through almost every day.  He could hear the clip-clop of the horse's hooves and grabbed his camera.  There is nothing in the wagon and it was early in the day, so they probably traveled through again with it loaded, but you can see that the horse and wagon transport travels right along with the rest of the car, bus, and train traffic.

Hmm.  Seems like the video might not work.  Here is a photo in case.

Our branch council planned a branch bbq to be held at the "forest".  We had never been to the forest but followed their instructions without success.  All we found were blocks of apartments.  However, on Monday with some investigation on the part of the missionaries, we found it.  Turns out that rather than head straight down the road we had to make a turn.  Here we are at the lake in the forest with some sandwiches and stuff.  (There were nude sunbathers there, so we had to be careful.)

Above: Sora Andersen, Elder Andersen, Sora Anderson, Elder Wilstead, and Elder Paul.  Sora Alger is taking the photo. You can see her on the right side of the bridge picture.

The photo above shows a gypsy family who comes to the vacant lot by our apartments every day to gather any scrap metal dug up by the excavating of the park that is beginning to be put in. The whole family comes from Grandma to very littles. We think they make their living by recycling. Notice all the little wagons and carts they have put together to help haul what they find.

Here we are at Sora Lydia's home.  She is a member and the 1st Counselor in the Relief Society of the branch.  Her husband Costi is taking the lessons with the missionaries.

Saturday was the day we had our  BBQ in the forest.  It was a good day.  We had about 25 people come, 3 of which were investigators.

Sunday we attended church in Timisoara after we went to our own branch in Arad.
This is George.  He is one of their investigators.  A very happy fellow, he wanted to be part of the group. He bore his testimony, it was fast Sunday, and he helped the chorister lead the music.

And here is the Sunday School teacher.  We sat in a circle and discussed the lesson on "Keeping the Sabbath day Holy".  She has a great testimony, knows the scriptures well, and is a wonderful teacher.

  1. I love the picture of you all at Sora Lydia's home. It reminds me of some of the pictures McKay has of his time in Poland. It seems the people there sure have to make some sacrifices to be members of the church. That'd be great if her husband joined. And hopefully George will come around. And what a neat Sunday school teacher. Such a great experience you're having!! I wish the video had worked. It's crazy to think that in 2017 you have a horse and cart sharing a paved street with vehicles. Quite a sight!
