31 July 2017 - Week 17

We began this week with a trip to "Centru"  in the middle of Arad to look at a property found by some of our members who would like to have it considered as a location for our branch meetings.  The advantages of the move would be that the location is very close to the downtown mass transit stations compared to where we meet now and it would be easier to get Young Single Adults to our activities.  Our current building is very nice for us, but it is difficult to get to by mass transit.  Here are a few photos of the proposed location.  The problems with the new location are the high rent price, it needs lots of remodeling, the stairs, and no air conditioning. We have sent the floor plan and photos to the area authorities for church real estate people.

As we drive through the country recently we are seeing the huge fields of sunflowers and hanging their heavy heads as the seeds maturing.  Now we are anticipating how they will be harvested.

Last week when we went out to the Romanian border, we discovered a monastery on the outskirts of Arad.  We took the Elders out to have a look.  Sadly, the chapel was not open, but we were able to get some photos it.

Here are the Elders on the front porch. From left to right Elder Paul, Elder Gore and Elder Andersen.

There were some beautiful paintings on the ceiling and walls of the porch.  I really liked how they show so much bread.  Very symbolic. And note the fish in baskets too.

Here is a photo of the holy water containers. In this same building, there was a monk studying in a corner.  I think he was also kind of guarding the place.  He sat by a dim window, dressed totally in black, reading the scriptures.  The thought came to me, "How can a person learn about the "Light of the World" in such a place?"

Here are the living quarters of the monks and nuns.

This is an outdoor worship place, with only pillars for walls, except the back wall you can see.

Trying to get better at selfies.

In an effort to maintain positive mental attitudes and strong bodies, we have been walking at the forest every morning.  Here are a few photos of where we walk.

Transfer instructions came out on Saturday.  We are losing Sora Alger, Sister Castaneda is becoming a trainer and we will have a brand new, fresh from the MTC sister come to join her. More next week.
