20 November 2017 - Week 33

This week began with another trip to the Corvin Castle in Hunedoara, Romania.  Elder Wilstead had not been to the castle before and because he will be going home in February we decided to take him to see it.

Elder Wilstead, Elder Gore, and Elder Andersen
The day was rainy and drizzly, but we arrived at the castle a bit early and had to wait for them to open at 12:00 noon.  No discount for rainy days. This was Brent's 4th trip to this castle and Jamie's 3rd, but we enjoyed it.

There are lots of great picture opportunities there!

This archway leads to the well that was dug by 3 Turkish prisoners.  The legend says that they were told if they found water, they would be freed.  After 15 years of digging the finally reached the water, but they were not released from prison.  The black fence you see is around the top of the well.

Here you can see the Elders on the left side in the distance as they discuss the "Bear Cave."

Today I was able to get a good picture of the Blacksmith shop. You can see the large bellows and fireplace on the left side.

We take a walk each morning in the woods a few miles outside Arad.  We wandered off the road one morning to investigate the trees that have fallen over in a wind storm we had a few weeks ago.  Many of them are 100 feet tall.  Here's Brent standing next to the root ball of one of them.

As you can see, Brent found a tree he could ride like the ones we used to find when we were getting wood for our fireplaces.  He couldn't resist taking a little ride.

We went with the sisters to teach an investigator lady who lives about 1/2 hour outside Arad.  We enjoyed going with them.  Elder Andersen even bore his testimony of the restoration of the gospel to her in Romanian.  Impressive.  The sisters even said they could understand what he said! She even said she would like to baptized.

We visited a Romanian restaurant that was recommended by Gabrial who is our building custodian.  He was very insistent, so we decided to go for lunch.  We found a table near the door and sat down to look at the menu.  It was all in Romanian.  (Most of the time, the menus have Romanian and English.)  We were able to pick out some of the words and ordered pui supa.  Chicken noodle soup. Oh, the basket of bread was sitting in the middle of the table.  We used it to dip in our soup.
The meal also included an entree.  Our Romanian speaking waitress found a customer who came to our table and explained to us in English what our entree options were. (Wheeew!)  We ordered turkey meatballs with a side of rice.  They were good and we really liked the rice.

Izabela Geambasu, who is a super singer, and the wife of our district president, came to Arad and presented a wonderful fireside about Gratitude.

About half of our members who are regular attendees at our Sunday meetings came to the fireside.  We really appreciate the efforts of the Geambasu's to build the missionary work.

It was a good week.  Until next time . . . La Revedere!
